Various Schools

We have four official running schools at Jeppe, the main difference being the pace at which they run. All running schools leave from Jeppe Quondam Car Park at 5.00am from Tuesday to Friday while the Walking School leaves from Jeppe Quondam Car Park at 5.15am from Tuesday to Friday and at 6h00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Weekend runs are longer. Make sure you speak to the captain of your school to find out any variations to these times as not all schools run on Saturdays and Sundays.

Please be aware that the starting times and distances do change during Comrades training.
You need to check the Training Programme or speak to your captain.

A – School

Captain: Gary Smith

On weekdays we run between 10 and 12km’s, depending on the route.  The pace is between 4:15 and 4:30 per km, with one water stop on the route.  Saturdays we mostly run our Boys School route and Sunday is official race day.  If there is no race, we organise a club run that includes all the schools.

Middle School (Lemmings)

Captain: Eamonn McCann

Weekday runs are approximately 10km at a pace of about 5.30 minutes a km with a water stop at half way. This is still a social group and front runners are sent back to fetch the slower back runners at certain points i.e. top of hills. This group does not stop as often as the B-school. Weekend runs are longer, speak to your captain.

B – School

Captain: Jo-Anne Buchner

This is a social, fun group of runners, not all of who aspire to run Comrades, but our goals are just as real for each and every one of our runners. Weekday runs vary between 9km – 10km at a pace of about 5.30 – 6 minutes a km. Front runners are sent back too fetch slower runners at the top of hills and at the water point. Weekend runs are slower and vary in distance depending on the time of year and the upcoming races.

Sue’s School

Captain: Sue La Vita

The basic criteria is that any new runner should have a reasonable amount of fitness i.e. they have been going to gym or spinning, so as they can get through a minimum of 5 Km’s. The distance is about 8 km at a pace of approximately 6-7 minutes a km.

It is an ideal school for beginners, people coming back from injury and those who have lain off for a while.

Lindy’s Walking School

Captain: Linda de Araujo

The benefit of joining this school is that it does not only provide a way in which people are able to stay healthy through exercise but also has a social aspect and is therefore a way to meet people and make new friends. It also provides a way for injured runners to still exercise while they recover. The distance we walk Tuesday to Friday is 6km and on a Sunday 12km.
